After a quick appeals process, Bryce Harper’s MLB-issued suspension for his involvement in Monday’s bench-clearing brawl has been reduced to three games, according to MLB.com.
Following his fight with Giants pitcher Hunter Strickland, Harper was slapped with a four-game suspension, immediately appealing on Tuesday. However, because of the agregious nature of Strickland’s pitch, many around baseball felt the similarities in sentence lengths were unfair to Harper, so MLB clearly had a change of heart.
Bryce Harper had his suspension reduced to three games after appealing, and he will begin serving that Wednesday.
Harper’s suspension begins Wednesday night in the series finale against San Francisco, and given that the Nationals have an off day on Thursday, the Nationals slugger should be eligible to return on Sunday.
Strickland also appealed his suspension, but he is still waiting the result of his appeal. In addition to the suspensions, both players received fines for their actions.
