Red Gerard, 17-year-old snowboarder, wins first gold medal for Team USA at PyeongChang Olympics

 One of America’s youngest Olympians has made the first big impact for the country at the games.

Red Gerard, 17, became the first member of Team USA to take home gold at PyeongChang on Saturday.

Gerard took home the top medal in slopestyle snowboarding thanks to a clutch final run that gave him a score of 87.16.

Canadians Max Parrot and Mark McMorris won silver and bronze with scores of 86.00 and 85.20.

Gerard will have a shot at history when he competes in the Big Air contest on Feb. 24. No snowboarder has ever won multiple medals at a single Olympic game.
