The Bronx mechanic accused of attacking the star of PIX11’s “Help Me Howard” now needs his own help — with $5,000 bail.
Jose Lebron-Pimentel, 36, faces up to seven years behind bars for the attack on Howard Thompson and his cameraman, John Frasse in Belmont at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Thompson and his cameraman were filming a segment about Lebron-Pimentel’s business, Benji Auto Sales on East 180th St. when the mechanic allegedly flipped out.
“Howard Thompson was attempting to conduct an interview with the defendant as part of his television news segment ‘Help Me Howard’ on Pix11,” Assistant District Attorney Carling Donovan said Wednesday.

“Mr. Howard and his cameraman in this case were responding to a complaint by citizens of the community and were violently attacked by the defendant.”
The whole thing was captured on camera. Thompson and his photographer retreated into traffic as Lebron-Pimentel struck Howard in the arm, and hit Frasse in the hip, authorities said. Neither were seriously hurt.
Thompson was working on a story about an unpaid judgement against the auto shop.
His long-running segment features him confronting landlords and other deadbeats on behalf of regular New Yorkers.

“For every person that we've helped — there have been about 2,000 right now — there's someone on the other side of the equation that is not happy with other presence,” Thompson said on WPIX.
Lebron-Pimentel was held on $5,000 bail after his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court Wednesday.
His brother, Norberto Pena, said that Lebron-Pimentel’s wife would soon post his bail.
“I don’t know exactly if it’s true with the baseball bat,” Pena said. “I didn't see anything.”
