Scott Pelley officially out at ‘CBS Evening News’ as anchor readies for move to full-time ‘60 Minutes’ post

CBS announced Tuesday that it's moving the veteran anchor to a full-time role on "60 Minutes," where he's contributed as a correspondent since 2004.

Anthony Mason, a co-host on "CBS This Morning: Saturday," slides in as the interim anchor of the "CBS Evening News" as the network determines how to move forward.

"I find my heart filled with gratitude for the opportunity to know you, humility, in light of your sacrifices, and hope for the future of journalism because of the standards you live by," Pelley said in a statement Tuesday. "CBS has been great to me for nearly 30 years. I'm glad to accept this assignment with continuing gratitude."

The move comes shortly after the "CBS Evening News" finished behind both NBC and ABC in the ratings during May sweeps.

Sources recently told the Daily News that Pelly, 59, and CBS News President David Rhodes didn't always see eye to eye.

In addition to serving as its anchor, Pelley was the managing editor of the "CBS Evening News." He took over the show in 2011, replacing Katie Couric.
