Cops are searching for a firebug who chucked a Molotov cocktail at a NYPD portable command post in Staten Island early Wednesday.
Police monitoring the command post on Jersey St. between Hendricks and Benziger Aves. saw a wine bottle with a flaming wick sticking out of it flying through the air at about 2:45 a.m., officials said.
The bottle, which contained a flammable liquid, hit the ground before striking the command post, but never exploded.
Cops saw a man in dark clothing running away from the scene.
Equipment used in the making of the improvised explosive — including matches, a bottle of flammable liquid, some rags and a pair of gloves, were found nearby.
Last week in Queens, someone fired a B.B. gun at a NYPD portable command post in Queens. The posts look like tricked-out Winnebagos.
Two cops inside the post were not harmed after three shots rang out on National St. near Roosevelt Ave. in Corona at about 8:30 p.m. on March 6.
A hole created by a B.B. pellet was found in the front passenger-side window, officials said.
It was not immediately clear if the two incidents were connected, officials said.
No arrests have been made.
