A blood-stained shovel and a large bloody stain were found in the
trunk of a car belonging to a former Virginia Tech student accused of
brutally killing a 13-year-old girl, cops testified Wednesday.
The emotionally-charged trial started this week in Virginia for David Eisenhauer, accused of stabbing middle school student Nicole Lovell 14 times and cutting her throat in 2016.
Lawyers for Eisenhauer have tried to shift the focus to friend and alleged accomplice Natalie Keepers, who will go on trial later this year.

Eisenhauer is accused of making a "secret date" with Lovell after meeting the teen through the instant messaging app Kik. Nicole climbed out of her bedroom window at her Blacksburg home to meet Eisenhauer, who was then an 18-year-old engineering student at nearby Virginia Tech.
Prosecutors say Eisenhauer killed her because he was worried his relationship with her would be revealed, and was scared she might be pregnant.
A medical examiner testified Tuesday that Nicole was not carrying a child.

In dramatic testimony on Wednesday, Detective Mike Czernicki of the Blacksburg Police Department displayed a bloody shovel taken from Eisenhauer's vehicle after the slaying, according to the Roanoke Times. There was a bloody handprint on the handle.
However, Eisenhauer's lawyers had already said their opening statements that a lab report identified a print on the shovel as belonging to Keepers, according to the newspaper. The lab report identified blood on the shovel as belonging to Lovell.

The detective also testified in the Christiansburg courtroom that there was blood in the trunk of the car, and on other parts of the vehicle.
Cops also testified that they found a piece of paper with the girl's address on it in the defendant's dorm room on campus.
Commonwealth's Attorney Mary Pettitt said during opening statements earlier this week that Eisenhauer took the girl to a wooded area he and Keepers had picked out earlier.
"Then the defendant coldly and ruthlessly stabs Nicole ... not once, not twice, but 14 times," Pettitt said.
