Trump calls Democratic intelligence memo he blocked 'very political and long'

President Trump said Saturday a Democratic intelligence memo he has blocked from being released is “very political and long” and would have to be rewritten before he would allow it to be made public.

Trump calls Democratic intelligence memo he blocked 'very political and long'

Trump blocked the release of the document a week after quickly signing off on the release of a Republican memo — over the objections of the FBI — alleging abuses by the FBI and Department of Justice in the Russia investigation.

Democrats put together their own memo rebutting the allegations, and the House Intelligence Committee voted to declassify and release it. But the White House Friday refused, citing national security concerns.

“The Democrats sent a very political and long response memo which they knew, because of sources and methods (and more), would have to be heavily redacted, whereupon they would blame the White House for lack of transparency,” Trump wrote in one of a series of tweets Saturday about the Russia probe.

“Told them to re-do and send back in proper form!”

The Republican memo objects to how the FBI went about obtaining a warrant for surveillance of Carter Page, a Trump campaign adviser.

Trump pointed to the memo’s contents to claim vindication in an ongoing probe by special counsel Robert Mueller into Russia’s interference in the 2016 Presidential campaign and possible involvement by Trump campaign associates. But even the Republicans behind the memo rebutted Trump’s claim the memo vindicated him.

The Intelligence Committee’s top Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff, criticized Trump for a double standard in dealing with the two documents but said he would work on redactions to get it released.

Democrats "look forward to conferring with the agencies to determine how we can properly inform the American people about the misleading attack on law enforcement by the GOP,” he said.

In other tweets Saturday, Trump referenced a New York Times report that American spies paid a Russian $100,000 in an attempt to get back American cyber weapons that had been stolen. The Russian also promised compromising information on Trump.

American officials said they were only interested in the cyber weapons, but when they coughed up the cash, the Russian only produced shoddy information about Trump and his associates.

“According to the @nytimes, a Russian sold phony secrets on ‘Trump’ to the U.S.,” Trump tweeted. “I hope people are now seeing & understanding what is going on here. It is all now starting to come out - DRAIN THE SWAMP!”

The President went on to devote two tweets to transcribing a quote on Fox News from a conservative activist, Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton, and paraphrasing other remarks by Fitton.

“My view is that not only has Trump been vindicated in the last several weeks about the mishandling of the Dossier and the lies about the Clinton/DNC Dossier, it shows that he’s been victimized,” the tweet said.

“He’s been victimized by the Obama Administration who were using all sorts of agencies, not just the FBI & DOJ, now the State Department to dig up dirt on him in the days leading up to the Election. Comey had conversations with Donald Trump, which I don’t believe were accurate…he leaked information (corrupt).”
